Serenity

Quote: “Never too old, never too bad, never too late, never too sick to start from scratch once again.” -Bikram Choudhury.

Essential Oil - Serenity:
Blend Ingredients:
Lavender, Roman chamomile, Sandalwood, Sweet marjoram, Vanilla, Ylang ylang

This Blend Addresses:
-Anxiety
-Calming
-Induces restfulness
-Soothing
-Stress
-Tension headaches
---You can diffuse this oil for soothing and calming; it is especially effective if used before bedtime to induce a restful sleep. Apply topically with light massage to feet or temples for stress relief and to increase a sense of well-being. Apply topically to feet at bedtime to calm and aid in restful sleep. Also apply to the neck and lymph nodes if needed to reduce anxiety, if blood pressure is high, or if there is tension or stress.
Some might find direct application helpful for tension headaches. I love massaging some on my children’s feet in the evening when it’s time to quiet down.

Question for U:
. What things do you do to keep you sane despite all the craziness of life?

...if you mess up, i't s not your parents' fault...

Bill Gates recently gave a Commencement speech at a High School about 11 things they did not and will not learn in school. He talks about how feel-good, politically correct teachings created a generation of kids with no concept of reality and how this concept set them up for failure in the real world.

Rule 1: Life is not fair - get used to it!

Rule 2: The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.

Rule 3: You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.

Rule 4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.

Rule 5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping: they called it opportunity.

Rule 6: If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault, so don't whine about your mistakes; learn from them.

Rule 7: Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you were. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.

Rule 8: Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades and they'll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.

Rule 9: Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF. Do that on your own time.

Rule 10: Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.

Rule 11: Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.

If you agree, pass it on.
If you can read this - Thank a teacher!
If you are reading it in English - Thank a Marine!!

Bill Gates gave a Commencement speech at a High School about 11 things they did not and will not learn in school. He talks about how feel-good, politically correct teachings created a generation of kids with no concept of reality and how this concept set them up for failure in the real world.

Here are some of the things he mentioned:

1: Life is not fair - get used to it! ( my thoughts: yeah, some friends will betray, some people will break your heart, others may lie to you, others may take advantage of your kindness/goodness, etc... doesn't mean you should stop being a friend, loving, being honest, kind and good)

2: The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.

3: You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both. (it's important to learn about EARNING what you get)

4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.

5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping: they called it opportunity. (as long as it's honest - work is work)

6: If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault, so don't whine about your mistakes; learn from them. (a blind friend told me this once, more than 20 years ago: learn learn learn, read read read, listen listen listen, and ask lots of questions)

7: Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you were. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's generation, try delousing the closet in your own room. (I don't think my little ones think we're boring - but that may change when they enter the teenage years. However, Jay and I have talked numerous times about how one of the main reasons why we want to stay healthy is so we can keep up with our children and the different kind of activities they'll enjoy when they're older)

8: Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades and they'll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.

9: Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF. Do that on your own time. (it is important to find yourself though. Take time to find who you really are. I know that I am a daughter of a wonderful and kind God)

10: Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs. (yeah, there's no reality in 'reality shows'! and you don't learn much, if anything, about real life watching tv)

11: Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one. (I think this one is funny)

Give what you want to receive

Give What You Want to Receive
We all want things in life.
And I’d even venture to say that you are worthy of them.
Now you may not be attracting what you want...or at least as fast as you would like, right?
James Allen, author of legendary book, “As A Man Thinketh” has taught that “we attract what we are, not what we want.”
Read that again...we attract what we are, not what we want.
I read this to interpret that having what we want in life has everything to do with how we’re being, how we’re showing up, the mirror effect, or even perhaps the concept of karma at play.
All too often when we are in a “wanting” stage - we start to feel anxious, sometimes even desperate for that very thing to happen, to come to us. We turn from anticipation to anguish, which energetically we’re putting off the wrong vibe - make sense?
So in applying James Allen’s wisdom, to attract what we want, we must be what we want....and I believe the fastest way to get there is to give what we want to receive.
Let’s say we want more love & appreciation from our significant other, a parent, a friend - what if we proactively offered that love & appreciation...?
Or what if we’d like to feel more financially wealthy & abundant? Perhaps we take food to the local shelter, buy someone a bagel behind us in line, or write a gratitude list for the current comforts we have...?
In other words, we model abundance as if that is already our life.
Ivin Misner, BNI International Founder, calls it “Give to Gain.”
When we show up with value, we get valued.
See, what I’m really suggesting is that we proactively become the result, the energetic karmic match for what you’re wanting to experience in your life...love, income, sales, peace, etc.
So what will you do today?
  • Compliment your spouse? Fix their favorite meal? Tuck a sweet note in their book?
  • Buy someone a gift, rake the neighbors leaves, or donate to your local food bank?
  • Send a referral to a friend? Endorse someone’s services you’re pleased with?
  • Think kinder thoughts, forgive, allow others - especially YOURSELF - off the perfectionistic police path?
When we become in alignment with what we want, we naturally and with simple ease attract what we want because we are that which we are projecting ourselves.
You are worthy of your desires...go simply be the desire for someone else and watch the magic happen.
Love,
Sofia

Oils that help w/ feelings of insecutity

Which essential oils assist with
feelings of insecurity and feeling unlovable?
Lovable: Having qualities that attract affection
Bergamot

Bergamot - teaches us to let go of self-judgment and move into a space
of self love and acceptance. By learning to love ourselves unconditionally, we gain the courage to share our genuine thoughts and feelings. Bergamot reassures us that we are lovable for who we really are.

Cassia- assists those of us who hold back or hide. It helps us see our value and potential. Cassia restores confidence and self assurance, allowing us to live from our authentic self. (a little side note on Cassia - It smells AMAZING and tastes oh so good!)

Lavender- Lavender addresses deep fears of being seen and heard. It calms the insecurities that cause us to block our self-expression. Lavender helps us see that it is through open and honest expression that we experience unconditional love and acceptance.

This is a link to Doterra's Living Magazine for Fall

Some of my favorite articles are on pg. 10 to 14 about how some oils can work as a brain booster, homework help, or for better behavior (it's a "back to school" section), I also enjoyed reading a successful story on loosing weight using slim & sassy on pg.6.

Question for U: What do you do to solve feelings of  'I'm not good enough'?

Lessons from a Donkey! & Happy Thanksgiving

Enjoy Thanksgiving & make use of the oils  to renew you:
coriander to balance blood sugar,

on guard to build back up the immune system, if it's suppressed by sugar, overeating, lack of sleep :),

cassia is both beautiful and powerful to diffuse as we enter this season! And it helps you feel love for self

Celebrate all the blessings you have in your life, the faces of your family and friends & all the amazing tools we've been given to help them!

Lessons from a Donkey
http://mylifeyoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/DonkeyInTheWell.jpg

One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for
hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do. Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway; it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey.

He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement he quieted down.

A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well. He was astonished at what he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up.

As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and happily trotted off!

MORAL :

Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of our troubles is a steppingstone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not stopping, never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up.

Remember the five simple rules to be happy:

1. Free your heart from hatred - Forgive.

2. Free your mind from worries - Most never happens.

3. Live simply and appreciate what you have.

4. Give more.

5. Expect less from people but more from yourself.

We always have the choice to be victim or victor.
So next time it feels as if you are in that well with no chance of being freed, think of the little donkey that refused to accept that his circumstances were beyond his control; he didn’t give up and he didn’t give in, and you don’t have to either!

Question for U:
• How can you move from being a victim to being in charge of your own mind, choices or mindset?
• What small changes can you make this week to move yourself forward or take charge of your situation?

Pain - how can DoTerra help?

http://static.ddmcdn.com/gif/addiction-dependence-pain.jpg

•Everyone will experience PAIN.
•50 % of ER visits are PAIN related.
•More than 100 million Americans suffer from chronic PAIN.
•PAIN costs $600 billion a year in medical treatments and lost productivity.

The purpose of pain is to warn you of impending injury, or injury that has already occurred. There's 2 types of pain: acute pain (is a defense mechanism, we need it) and chronic pain (from too much inflammation in our bodies).

What are some of the problems of medicine? Are they masking symptoms or getting to the root of the problem?

“The biggest and fastest growing part of American’s drug problem is prescription drug abuse.”
–National Institute on Drug Abuse

“The number of overdose deaths from pain killers more than tripled from 1999 to 2006.”
–Pharmacoepidemiology & Drug Safety

There is something we can do...
LLV
-The Life Long Vitality Pack is a specific set of nutritional supplements done by the doTERRA company described in this way, "Alpha CRS+™, xEO Mega®, and Microplex VMz which are a comprehensive dietary supplement program of essential nutrients and energy factors for lifelong vitality and wellness."

-THIS IS DOTERRA'S #1 PRODUCT! Taking the LLV has changed my life (read about it here). In fact, the company feels so strongly about this product that you can return the bottles empty in 30 days and they'll give you your money back if you are not satisfied (out of thousands of orders over the last 4 years less than 16-20 have been returned).

-More people have gotten off their over the counter medication by using this product than by using anything else! It feeds your body perfectly.
You can buy it at retail price or for even less than retail if you buy it through the Loyalty Rewards Program (because you'll get points to use for free product!) Contact Doterra's Customer Service (800-411-8151) and they'll help you set up your order.

-The LLV supplements does 3 main things for you:
1) it brings down the level of imflamation in your body - this in turn bri ngs down the chronic pain. There's 6 anti-inflamatories in LLV ( all natural, from plants).
2) it increases your energy because it feeds your body the right nutrients from vitamins and minerals (things that are very hard for our bodies to get with today's poor nutrition). As our body is fed perfectly our mood is naturally enhanced and there's less feelings of depression.
3) increases cellular rejuvenation (meaning healthier brain function, healthier skin, living with more vitality, less sickness).

I love you so much it hurts!

 É Isso Aí
É isso aí
Como a gente achou que ia ser
A vida tão simples é boa
Quase sempre
É isso ai
Os passos vão pelas ruas
Ninguém reparou na lua
A vida sempre continua

Teu querer
Tua fome de prazer sem disfarçar
Sou tua fonte de alegria
Sou o teu sonhar
Eu sou a tua sombra
Eu sou teu guia
Sou teu luar em plena luz do dia
Eu sou a tua pele
Proteção
Sou teu calor
Eu sou teu cheiro a perfumar o nosso amor
Eu sou tua saudade reprimida
Sou o teu sangrar ao ver minha partida
Sou o teu peito a apelar, gritar de dor
Ao se ver ainda mais distante do meu amor
Eu sou teu ego
Tua alma
Sou teu céu
O teu inferno
A tua calma
Eu sou teu tudo
Sou teu nada
Sou apenas a tua amada
Eu sou teu mundo
Sou teu poder
Sou tua vida

Deitar no teu abraço
Retomar o pedaço
Que falta no meu coração

Eu não existo longe de você

E a solidão é o meu pior castigo
Eu conto as horas

E a solidão é o meu pior castigo
Eu conto as horas pra poder te ver
Mas o relógio tá de mal comigo (2x)

How much oil should I use?

I hear it all the time...
“How much oil do I use?”
“How often should I use it?”
“Where do I put it?”

The answers are straightforward, yet not well defined.

Essential oils are not like medications. More often is almost always better. For simplicity we will imagine essential oils as if they were food (cinnamon, basil, oregano, lemon... hmmm.. not too far off!). When we are hungry: we eat. When we are full: we stop. At first, it might be hard to know when you reach that point with an essential oil. But I promise, you will get there eventually!

The quantity of each application is not as important as the frequency of putting it on. Just like during our day, we don’t begin with a huge meal and call it good. We must take one bite at a time, and eat throughout our day. In fact, a new trend in dieting is to eat mini-meals for losing weight AND staying healthy.
It is important to note that 1 drop of peppermint essential oil is equivalent to 28 cups of peppermint tea. 1 drop goes a LONG way.

General guide for my family:
1 drop or less, topically (diluting is wonderful for my sensitive skinned boys)
Every 1-2 hours if we are sick (until better).
Every 2-3 hours for anything chronic we are working on (until symptoms abate).
1-2 times a day for our daily oils that help us feel good (citrus oils, calming oils, concentrations oils).

2-3 drops in a capsule
Every 1-2 hours if we are sick (until better).
Every 2-3 hours for anything chronic or routine we are working on (until symptoms abate).

We love back rubs (especially at night right down the spine) and we end up using 3-10 drops for those.

Where to put them? Where to put them! Well that’s just up to you! I’ve told you how often we use them, and even how I use them. But we switch it around quite a bit. There are all kinds of different reasons to do one over the other (internal, topical, or aromatic), but in reality, you want it in your bloodstream and its going to get there any of those three ways.

Topically, use them: on location, bottom of the feet, down the spine (my favorite), on the chest (over heart), or around the ears.
Internally: let’s keep AWAY from in the ears, and in the eyes. Empty veggie capsules are great for getting doTERRA CPTG oils internally.
Aromatically: you can create a personally inhaler with the palms of your hands, diffuse in the air with a diffuser, use a personal inhaler (or “sniffy” is what I like to call it), or spritz it in the air with a mist bottle.

Using essential oils needs to become very intuitive for you. So as you use them, and follow friends and mentors suggestions, start to think about how YOU like to use them best, and how YOU feel after each use.

Goal

"The GOAL isn't
to live forever.
The GOAL is
to create something
that will."

Your words and thoughts have physical power - Will Smith

Good stuff! Really good stuff. I just love it when I find other people who are passionate about  whatever it is that they want to pursuit. I love hearing about things that are and have been in my subconscious because in a way it materializes my thoughts, it puts a voice on them.
I know who I am and it is such a breath of fresh air to find other people who know who they are (whether or not it coincides with my beliefs).
There is a purpose for life.
There is a reason behind what happens to us, for us, at us, around us.
There is a huge universe, an infinite universe... and even though we are tiny, even though we are one, just one, each of us; we ARE. We matter. And we MAKE A DIFFERENCE. We act and as we act we create reactions, effects.
I love it how Will explains the difference between talent and skill. We create who we end up being. A person isn't born successful, or happy, or lucky... I really DISLIKE (want to avoid saying hate) it when people use the excuse: "I'm just not a smart person (or lucky, or thin, or happy, or good at...). Whatever!!!!! YOU are whatever you make of yourself!!! If you think you're not ----- then WORK on becoming -----. Work on it, train, read about it, practice it, learn it but don't just sit on your butt feeling sad for yourself and using the excuse: "I was born this way".
Focus on what  you want and then WORK to get it. And by the way, don't wait for, or expect encouragement from others. Just find the encouragement you need inside yourself. Or, if you're like me, find it inside of yourself and find it in your Heavenly Father - the one who created you knows who you are and wants you to become THE BEST you can be.
Life    is    good.

Thank you Julia Holt, for sharing this video - you tend to share things on FB that I really like : )
Funny side note: I didn't mean to post the video twice, but I've tried to delete the second one and nothing is working, so, hey, I get the SAME cool video on ONE post TWICE! : )

Medicine Cabinet Makeover, and Croup!!!

The Essential Oils are such a natural, safe way to take care of our little ones, without any side effects, risk of addiction or overdose, etc. In our family we have made the decision to always try a natrual approach to health care before reaching for synthetic medicine, and this has worked really well for us.

To see how you can replace your medicine cabinet with natural alternatives check out this link:
Makeover #2 – Medicine Cabinet

One of our recent experiences with the oils:

Tiago got Croup right at the beginning of the school year.
Croup is "a throat condition, occurring usually in children, characterized by a hoarse cough and laboured breathing, resulting from inflammation and partial obstruction of the larynx". Both Gabi and Tiago have had this in previous years. The cough sounds horrible, wakes them up at night and (in the past) made me feel so, so sad and worried about my little ones. This time around I felt Empowered. We immediately started applying On Guard on the soles of his feet, and massaging Breathe on his little chest. At night we put the diffuser right by his bed and diffused Breathe as well. Believe it or not, he was completely symptom free in 2 days!!!

Application Techniques
Use at the onset of cold, flu, and congestion. Apply topically with thorough massage to the back, neck, shoulders, chest, and feet. Combine with hot compresses for best results. Use cup and inhale or diffuse when possible and carry a tissue cup on the go.
For young children or infants, use a carrier oil like fractionated coconut oil, apply with massage to chest and back, and cover with clothing or socks after finishing.
This blend can be helpful in a bath using salts or a dispersing agent. During a steamy hot shower, plug the drain for a few minutes and use several drops with a wash cloth in the bath area.
Blend Ingredients
Eucalyptus radiata
Laurel leaf
Lemon
Melaleuca alternfolia
Peppermint
Ravensara

This Blend Addresses
Asthma
Bronchitis
Congestion
Cold and flu
Cough
Respiratory stress

Application Techniques
Editor's note:  doTERRA makes a number of products to make it easier to use the On Guard blend.  These include throat drops, hand wipes, and a foaming hand wash with a push top dispenser.  Click here for more information about these products.
Apply to surfaces to kill germs and pathogens. Diffuse in rooms to provide immune support and to rid the area of bacteria, viruses, mold, and fungi.
Apply topically with massage to feet, back, neck and shoulders to offer immune support.
Apply with lymphatic massage at the onset of or during illness. The oils included in this type of blend are GRAS.
Take 2-3 drops per day orally for 3 days prior to surgery and apply with massage to strengthen immune system and guard against infection.
Take orally with honey, agave, or juice at the onset of nagging symptoms of cold, flu, and viruses.
At the onset of sore throat or to fight laryngitis, place 2-3 drops in ¼ cup of water, gargle, swish and pull for 5 minutes, then spit. Take 2 drops internally.
Add 2-3 drops of protection blend and 1 drop of Lemon in 1 tablespoon of olive oil and take internally every hour up to 8 hours while relief comes from gallbladder attacks. One can apply similarly using digestive blends.
Add several drops to distilled water in a spray bottle and use the mixture to disinfect surfaces in the kitchen and bathroom.

Human Angels

It's been said that everlasting friends can go long periods of time without speaking and never question their friendship. These friends pick up phones like they just spoke yesterday, regardless of how long it has been or how far away they live, and they don't hold grudges. They understand that life is busy and that you will always love them. They don't just wait for you to ask for help - they show up and say "I'm here to help"
I have been blessed with a few friends like this. Good people who bless my life with their genuine love, concern and support
Friends that are nothing less than Human Angels.

If you've never failled, you've never lived

It is a pleasure to be an Independent Product Consultant for DoTerra!
Excerpts from a letter written by DoTerra's CEO:
When the doTERRA management was forming, two things were of greatest importance.  First, the members of the team had to be completely trustworthy and honest.  Second, they had to be the best at their job, in terms of skill and judgment.  When these two things are in place, you can move very fast, as it is no longer necessary to “check” someone’s work or worry that their intentions may be less than completely honest.  When we decided to go forward with doTERRA, funding immediately became a front and center issue.  There was no shortage of people/groups willing to support our endeavor, but because we felt the need to preserve the integrity of doTERRA’s mission and the essential oils, in the end we decided to see if we could fund it ourselves.  This resulted in the founders leveraging every bit of equity they had in their homes or any other asset.  It also meant that they received no income from doTERRA for the first 13 months, and far less than they were accustomed to earning after that!  For all, this was a significant sacrifice and for some it represented a very real trial of faith.  Something like this is unheard of in today’s business environment.  It served to forge a united team that is 100% committed to the purpose for which doTERRA was formed.  It is also something which gives me a tremendous sense of pride for this team.
If you were to visit doTERRA’s headquarters in Orem Utah, you would experience an environment of high energy, love and respect, with a sense that employees really love doing what they’re doing.  We have a great time because we love and respect the people with whom we are doing this.  It doesn’t get any better than that.
In starting doTERRA there was nothing more important to us than the purity and medicinal quality of our oils.  This is the primary reason for our success thus far and simply will not be compromised in any way.
Our oils are sourced from all over the world.  We pay more (some significantly so) because we require a higher grade.  d?TERRA also puts our oils through an unequaled quality assurance process, ensuring medicinal grade as well as their being free from other contaminants.  Please know that there is absolutely nothing more important to us than the quality of our oils, without which the expected results simply cannot be obtained.
Perhaps an important point to make, is that doTERRA is not about a single person’s mission or story.  The essential oils have a mission of their own that is larger than any man or individual.  We see doTERRA as being something of a steward in helping to bring about the mission the essential oils have in doing good for the peoples of this earth.  You will not see any executive member of doTERRA emerge as an iconic figure.  When it comes to doTERRA, you will also never see any improper or overt references to deity or faith healing from the stage.  Please do not misunderstand.  Each member of our team has a deep and abiding faith in God, which like many of you influences everything that they do.  We are simply committed to sharing the oils in a manner that can be understood and accepted by your typical mainstream (western medicine raised) person.
doTERRA’s mission is not to compete with or try to destroy other essential oil companies.  Our vision is to become a very large multinational company, partnering with hospitals and research universities all over the world.  These efforts are already well underway with offices opened in Taiwan and the United Kingdom.  There are also significant efforts and exciting progress happening in Australia, Japan, and Latin America.  It is so gratifying to see many distributors finding great success, some of whom have worked hard in other companies with only marginal results.  In fact, last month doTERRA broke five new Diamonds alone, bringing the total to 12 so far this year!  doTERRA is growing at unprecedented rates, largely because the world is ready for a company focused on its mission of a mainstream approach to essential oils.  I do not mean to sound overly confident or presumptuous, but our expectations and plans are for doTERRA to continue to double in size every 3 to 4 months.  Our 25,000 distributors are part of this mission to bring about a wellness revolution, bringing essential oils out of relative obscurity and onto the world stage for the purpose of benefiting more people than could otherwise be achieved.

TEDxHouston - Brené Brown

Wow! This is worth 25 minutes of your life!

I just watched this video and... don't really know what to say/write...
It's good...
You know how sometimes you know a concept inside of  you but it's just an idea that's not concrete, that you don't even know how to express or put into words, and then it's soooo cool when you find someone else that was able to express it and to in a way materialize that concept/idea?!
I feel like I knew (inside) the things this lady shares, but I wouldn't have known how to communicate it to others...
Anyway, just watch it... if you want to... if you don't want to... then...
...
...don't.
I would love to hear what  you T H I N K about it. Leave me a note : )

Love is vulnerable

Why do I feel like I have to appear to be so perfect?
I want others to like me; but I think others would like me even if/when they saw my imperfections...
The pictures I post here, or on Facebook of myself always show my best side, my smile, my good attitude, my 'happy' family, the fun in my life. But I hope that everyone realizes that the truth is: every now and then I cry; I make poor choices; I struggle with self esteem, parenting, comparing myself to others, marriage, etc.; I still get zits on my face : ( ; and the list goes on and on...

I found this picture on the internet: https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhV7Vlp57S2m-MGDTX1DRhznwrJbVlnBbEjz0ckducnwuHIEQBdNeNQ9iYPlacAGhtmHkZ6Il4ooOCwutXxLtV5FmLKWe3wBosYWzKonraEDNBrjhKZSoxibkuX3WZcShMG5uXcPyh-DHiY/s1600/vulnerable+love.jpg

I like/love other people even if/when their house is messy, even when I know that their married life isn't going well, or when they have a little extra belly fat! I don't care if my family and friends aren't perfect. And I would assume they have the same non- judgemental attitude towards me. Then why, oh why do I try to hide my imperfections?
Fear.
Fear of being vulnerable.
Fear of not being loved or understood.
Fear of being left alone... of having no family, no friends, no one who likes me.
I need to (and will) replace fear with hope, trust, and faith.

Blessed is the man that trusts in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreads out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat comes, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit. Jeremiah 17:7-8

Food That Kills - Full Documentary

I watched this youtube video a couple of years ago. I don't know about you, but I LOVED all the information he gives us and I learned a ton. If you want to be a bit healthier do spend about 45 minutes watching it, and then let me know what you think, OK?

Baby Lucas is born on the 9th of July, 2012

my 'little' belly at 37 weeks : )

at St. Alfonsus Hospital waiting for the contractions to get stronger!!!

We both took a nap at the hospital, because the contractions started at home at about 1am and we didn't go to the hospital until it was 5:30am. This is Jay after waking up from his nap.

We took the laptop and I skyped with my parents while I was in labor. It was awesome to feel their support and love even though they are in Portugal. My parents saw Lucas come into the world even though they weren't there in person.

This is our little Lucas!!! He looks perfect and we love him.

He is our newest little angel. I'm so thankful that Heavenly Father blesses us with families here on earth.

Team Sunshine. We're not perfect, yet we are perfect for eachother!

we love you Lucas!!!!

Frankincense and cancer...

I have been using Essential Oils instead of synthetic medicines and I've been amazed at how these oils are blessing my life.
Have you ever smelled Frankincense?
I hadn't until I got my own bottle from DoTerra.  When I first smelled it I though: "humm, interesting... pleasant..." It was a smell I had never encountered before. Today it is one of my favorite oils. It has so many uses (maybe I'll go over this on another entry). And this was a cool article I found with information about Frankincense and cancer.

Frankincense: Could it be a cure for cancer?
From the Middle East Business Report on BBC World News by Jeremy Howell
The gift given by the wise men to the baby Jesus probably came across the deserts from Oman. The BBC's Jeremy Howell visits the country to ask whether a commodity that was once worth its weight in gold could be reborn as a treatment for cancer.
OmanMapOman's Land of Frankincense is an 11-hour drive southwards from the capital, Muscat.  Most of the journey is through Arabia's Empty Quarter - hundreds of kilometres of flat, dun-coloured desert. Just when you are starting to think this is the only scenery you will ever see again, the Dhofar mountains appear in the distance.  On the other side are green valleys, with cows grazing in them. The Dhofar region catches the tail-end of India's summer monsoons, and they make this the most verdant place on the Arabian peninsula.
Warm winters and showery summers are the perfect conditions for the Boswellia sacra tree to produce the sap called frankincense. These trees grow wild in Dhofar. A tour guide, Mohammed Al-Shahri took me to Wadi Dawkah, a valley 20 km inland from the main city of Salalah, to see a forest of them.
Boswellia sacra tree"The records show that frankincense was produced here as far back as 7,000 BC," he says. He produces an army knife. He used to be a member of the Sultan's Special Forces. With a practised flick, he cuts a strip of bark from the trunk of one of the Boswellia sacra trees. Pinpricks of milky-white sap appear on the wood and, very slowly, start to ooze out.
"This is the first cut. But you don't gather this sap," he says. "It releases whatever impurities are in the wood. The farmers return after two or three weeks and make a second, and a third, cut. Then the sap comes out yellow, or bright green, or brown or even black. They take this."
Frankincense farmerShortly afterwards, a frankincense farmer arrives in a pick-up truck. He is white-bearded, wearing a brown thobe and the traditional Omani, paisley-patterned turban.  He is 67-year-old Salem Mohammed from the Gidad family. Most of the Boswellia sacra trees grow on public land, but custom dictates that each forest is given to one of the local families to farm, and Wadi Dawkah is his turf.
Camel train
Frankincense shopHe has an old, black, iron chisel with which he gouges out clumps of dried frankincense.  "We learnt about frankincense from our forefathers and they learnt it from theirs" he says. "The practice has been passed down through the generations. We exported the frankincense, and that's how the families in Dhofar made their livings."  And what an export trade it was. Frankincense was sent by camel train to Egypt, and from there to Europe. It was shipped from the ancient port of Sumharan to Persia, India and China. Religions adopted frankincense as a burnt offering.
That is why, according to Matthew's Gospel in the Bible, the Wise Men brought it as a gift to the infant Jesus. Gold: for a king. Frankincense: for God. Myrrh: to embalm Jesus' body after death.  The Roman Empire coveted the frankincense trade. In the first century BCE, Augustus Caesar sent 10,000 troops to invade what the Romans called Arabia Felix to find the source of frankincense and to control its production. The legions, marching from Yemen, were driven back by the heat and the aridity of the desert. They never found their Eldorado.
Catholic ritualOman's frankincense trade went into decline three centuries ago, when Portugal fought Oman for dominance of the sea routes in the Indian and the Pacific Oceans.  Nowadays, hardly any Omani frankincense is exported. Partly, this is because bulk buyers, such as the Roman Catholic Church, buy cheaper Somalian varieties. Partly, it is because Omanis now produce so little.  "Years ago, 20 families farmed frankincense in this area," says Salem Mohammed Gidad. "But the younger generation can get well-paid jobs in the government and the oil companies, with pensions. Now, only three people still produce frankincense around here. The trade is really, really tiny!"
Cancer hope
But immunologist Mahmoud Suhail is hoping to open a new chapter in the history of frankincense. Scientists have observed that there is some agent within frankincense which stops cancer spreading, and which induces cancerous cells to close themselves down. He is trying to find out what this is. "Cancer starts when the DNA code within the cell's nucleus becomes corrupted," he says. "It seems frankincense has a re-set function. It can tell the cell what the right DNA code should be. "Frankincense separates the 'brain' of the cancerous cell - the nucleus - from the 'body' - the cytoplasm, and closes down the nucleus to stop it reproducing corrupted DNA codes."
Working with frankincense could revolutionize the treatment of cancer. Currently, with chemotherapy, doctors blast the area around a tumor to kill the cancer, but that also kills healthy cells, and weakens the patient. Treatment with frankincense could eradicate the cancerous cells alone and let the others live. The task now is to isolate the agent within frankincense which, apparently, works this wonder. Some ingredients of frankincense are allergenic, so you cannot give a patient the whole thing.
Dr Suhail (who is originally from Iraq) has teamed up with medical scientists from the University of Oklahoma for the task.  In his laboratory in Salalah, he extracts the essential oil from locally produced frankincense. Then, he separates the oil into its constituent agents, such as Boswellic acid.  "There are 17 active agents in frankincense essential oil," says Dr Suhail. "We are using a process of elimination. We have cancer sufferers - for example, a horse in South Africa - and we are giving them tiny doses of each agent until we find the one which works."  "Some scientists think Boswellic acid is the key ingredient. But I think this is wrong. Many other essential oils - like oil from sandalwood - contain Boswellic acid, but they don't have this effect on cancer cells. So we are starting afresh."
The trials will take months to conduct and whatever results come out of them will take longer still to be verified. But this is a blink of the eye in the history of frankincense.  Nine thousand years ago, Omanis gathered it and burnt it for its curative and cleansing properties. It could be a key to the medical science of tomorrow.
